Tuesday, November 7, 2017 - 5:00pm

The Drama Book Shop is pleased to acclaimed playwright Anna Ziegler for a discussion and signing to celebrate her upcoming productions of The Last Match at Roundabout Theatre Company and Actually at Manhattan Theatre Club. Ziegler will sit down with playwright and Drama Book Shop Events Manager Steven Carl McCasland for a discussion about her plays on Tuesday, November 7th at 5:00pm. Copies of her plays will be available for purchase, and the discussion will be followed by a signing. Admission is free and open to the public.

Anna Ziegler is an award-winning playwright whose play Photograph 51 won London’s 2016 WhatsOnStage Best New Play award. It has also been selected as a “Best of the Year” play by The Washington Post (twice) and The Telegraph. Her play Boy was nominated for the 2016 John Gassner Award by the Outer Critics Circle. The Williamstown Theatre Festival and The Geffen Playhouse will co-world-premiere her latest play Actually in 2017. Her work has been produced on the West End (Photograph 51, in which Nicole Kidman starred) and at The Old Globe, Seattle Repertory Theatre, The Ensemble Studio Theatre, The Magic Theatre, Playwrights Realm, City Theatre, and many more, and developed at the Sundance Theatre Lab, The O’Neill Playwrights Conference, Soho Rep and the Cape Cod Theatre Project, amongst others. More information can be found at her website:

In Actually (at Manhattan Theatre Club), Tom and Amber connect in ways that seem innocent enough at first at a raucous party during their freshman year at Princeton. But as things progress, they find themselves in murky territory, with ramifications that could affect the rest of their lives. What actually happened between them? And when it comes to relationships, how often is the truth completely objective? Can we ever shed our pre-conceived notions? This deeply felt, funny and thought-provoking play comes from fast-rising playwright Anna Ziegler (Photograph 51) and is directed by Lileana Blain-Cruz (Pipeline). In The Last Match (at Roundabout Theatre Company), it’s the semifinals of the US Open, and two tennis greats are facing off in the match of their lives. Tim Porter, the aging all-American favorite, wants to prove to the world, his wife and himself that he’s still a champion. Hot-headed rising star Sergei Sergeyev struggles to believe he truly deserves to beat his lifelong hero. Set against the high-stakes backdrop of professional sports, this New York premiere, directed by Gaye Taylor Upchurch, serves up a richly theatrical look at what keeps us striving and why.
